15 ton Bryant gas pack, Carlyle semi. 15 years old or so. Had trouble with it locking out. Cleaned both coils, added a few pounds, purring like a kitten. Kept shutting down on something, probably internal overload, when loaded so we left Y2 disconnect as it was oversized anyway.

Found it locked out yesterday, hotter than blazes in the bar. Reset the power, no compressor. Tried again, no. Tried again, she fires for 3 minutes and shuts down. Came back this morning with a senior tech armed with meters. Before he got to the roof, I reset it and she ran 3 minutes. We chased down the wires, got the meters ready to confirm what was opening and fired. Kept running. So we hooked up Y2 and she loaded up. All fine, 44 amps rated 60 RLA. Stayed steady volts & amps. Froze the space out, turned on the heat to warm it back up. Turned cooling back on, 2nd stage calls. All fine!

You suppose the internal could really be finding a problem and opening in 3 minutes? Then run for 45 just fine? Or a bad overload that is intermittent? Someone had been digging around those wires before us, places on the pressure switch wiring where someone sliced the insulation to get a lead on it. We gotta get it through 1 more summer, should have been replaced this year but we didn't pick the ones they did.
