what is the biggest problem, ie compressor failure, by using a walk-in freezer as a cooler? I know it's bad for the comp. Seen a few recently where an old WI freezer was now being kept on 40-44 degrees.

I don`t think it is a big deal. But since you posted this question also at HVAC-talk I am sure Edmond Forskin will answer it.

I have used a small freezer as a beer box using a digital control so I could set beer to 24° (ice beer only) ... does that count?

I wonder if you could change the valve and change the refrigerant to 22. A lot of Copeland compressors are suitable for either 22 or 502.
Any comments. Go easy dice!!!!!

change the valve and compressor all that but I am sure I have read and experienced myself that it's bad for the existing compressors to just turn the thing warmer. Besidess many of these are old R-12 WI's. Guess I gotta go see what Edmund had to say.

Maybe you could add a charge balancer. Pardon me for asking since I don't work on these things but is this something to do with getting enough cooling back to compressor or is it an oil return thingy?

oil return thingy. Pretty high tech explanantion there, huh?
I'll go to Dons site and see if they have turned it into a over complicated discussion of atomic theory yet.

Yeah, N6ber or whatever his name is thinks that running the ceiling fans if the A/C is short is going to lower the "effective temp"

What a joke they are, only work if you are under them and if you are sweating they work real well. Waste of money IMO.
Wish I could explain to wife they are useless and waste money if you can't increase the temp setting on a/c.

I think they are really good if you have a high atrium and put a ceiling fan to GENTLY move the hot air down in WINTER. Did a job from start for a Dr. Had a 22 ft high atrium. He was complaing cause we didn't put A/C outlets way up there. He said "What's wrong with you it is going to be 100º up there". My response was "So?" Then he understood that if he wasn't wearing 15' stilts it wouldn't matter.

to get air down from up high, if you can adjust fan to correct speed. Its just people ask me all the time if they should have every fan on in the house at same time, they read it somewhere. I think if you are under it and it allows you to be more comfortable than go for it.
